How I got here - Kim Mackenzie

February 29, 2024

Introducing Kim MacKenzie, our Senior Project Manager. Kim is a true powerhouse in the world of event management. With her exceptional people skills and boundless creative design talents, she’s a force to be reckoned with when it comes to orchestrating unforgettable events. Here is Kim’s story.

“For as long as I can remember, my greatest joy has been creating experiences for people. I’m obsessed with the ephemeral nature of events that guests arrive, have an experience, and leave with a memory. I’ve been lucky enough to spend the better part of 13 years, calling this my job.

I commenced my career primarily working in Music as Deputy General Manager of Australia’s largest music arts and cultural festival - Woodford Folk festival. During this time, I oversaw a team just shy of 900 people and prepared an event alongside an extraordinary team for aggregate audiences of up to 135,000 attendees across a six-day programme of events. The complex environmental, logistical, and sheer scale of building an entire town for a week set the foundation for how I operate, think creatively, and resolve issues.

Since then, I’ve been lucky enough to work on a number of significant music events as General Manager of Queensland Music Network overseeing the event management of BIGSOUND and Queensland Music Awards as well as both initiating and developing a Queensland first Women in Music Mentoring Program.

I have absolutely loved shifting gears into the agency world in the past two years and joining the We Are Phoenix team. I enjoy the size, scale and variety in which we work; and am constantly drawn to the short runway and fast paced nature of events we deliver. I’m loving working alongside a team of exceptional professionals that treat every minute detail with utmost priority. The trajectory of Phoenix is particularly exciting along with the recent rebrand launch and I am delighted to be on the journey with such a sophisticated bunch of operators.”
